Understanding Stanton County Releases
A release means a person left a particular custody setting. It does not always mean the person returned to the community or that every legal restraint ended. A Stanton arrest can end in bond, court release, time served, dismissal, or transfer. A felony case can lead to commitment to the Kansas Department of Corrections. Federal or immigration authorities may also receive a person.
Stanton has a distinctive custody structure. The county Sheriff administers local legal custody, while a neighboring county may provide the physical jail bed. The official Sheriff FAQ says arrestees who cannot post bond may be held in neighboring counties and directs callers to the Sheriff for facility information. As a result, Stanton and the host jail may keep different pieces of the same episode.
Transfer moves the person to another custodian.
Time served means credited custody satisfied the imposed jail term.
Discharge formally ends the applicable sentence or supervision relationship.
Stanton County Release Types
The event label determines where to look next. Preserve the exact wording in the official record. “Released,” “transferred,” “committed,” and “discharged” are not synonyms.
| Event type | What it means | Next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond | Release processing follows satisfaction of the court's bond terms. | Court bond order plus Sheriff and host-jail release entry. |
| Court order or dismissal | Legal authority for detention changes. | Journal entry, dismissal, or other named court document. |
| Time served | The credited term is complete. | Judgment, jail credit, and actual departure log. |
| KDOC commitment | State corrections receives the person. | KASPER status, location, movements, and sentence fields. |
| Federal or ICE transfer | A federal custodian receives the person. | BOP locator, ICE locator, federal docket, or agency record. |
| Sentence discharge | The applicable corrections relationship ends. | KDOC status, sentence expiration, and discharge record. |
Probation is a court disposition. Parole and postrelease supervision are KDOC community-supervision tracks after eligible state custody. Leaving a prison for a parole office is a release from the institution, but not a full discharge from the sentence.
Stanton County Release Record Fields
No official Stanton online roster or recent-release feed was found as of July 18, 2026. There are no verified local web fields, posting cadence, retention window, or photo flag to copy. A focused request can seek the existing records below. The county has not promised that every field exists or is open.
| Requested field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Full booked name and aliases | Identifies the person as recorded for this episode. |
| Date of birth and booking number | Separates people with similar names and ties documents together. |
| Arresting agency and booking time | Shows how and when the episode began. |
| Actual host facility | Names the jail that kept the operational custody log. |
| Charges and court case | Connects the jail record to legal proceedings. |
| Bond type and amount | Records the bond terms shown for the episode. |
| Release date, time, and type | Documents when and how that jail custody ended. |
| Destination or receiving agency | Separates community release from transfer. |
| Booking photograph | Identifies the intake image, if it exists and is disclosable. |
Ask for the booking or jail-register entry, release paperwork, and nonexempt portions. A court record explains legal authority. The operational jail entry is the stronger source for physical departure time. If Stanton and the host divide responsibility, two requests may be needed.
Request Stanton County Release Records
Stanton County's open-records page is the official fallback when a public display does not exist or no longer shows the event. Kansas agencies provide existing records. They do not have to answer a broad question or create a custom release report.
- Identify the full name, known date of birth, approximate booking date, and case number.
- Call the Sheriff at 620-492-6866 and ask which neighboring jail held the person.
- Describe the exact booking episode and name the booking, release, transfer, or photo record sought.
- Ask Stanton which records it holds and which belong to the host jail.
- Request electronic delivery and reasonably segregable nonexempt portions.
- If material is withheld, ask for the legal basis and the custodian responsible for the remaining record.

The county may charge reasonable staff and material costs. Its form contains office-use cost fields but does not publish a fixed release-record or photo fee. Under the Kansas Open Records Act, the agency must respond within three business days by producing records, explaining a denial, or stating why more time is needed. That is a response deadline, not always a production deadline.
Stanton Release Records Under KORA
Kansas public records are open unless a law provides an exception. K.S.A. 45-217 defines public-record terms and excludes jail, prison, or detention rosters from the definition of criminal-investigation records. That distinction supports access to a roster as a record category, but it does not make each photo, narrative, medical fact, or security detail automatically public.
K.S.A. 45-218 through 45-221 govern access, fees, procedures, exceptions, and separation of closed material from open portions. A narrow request helps the custodian locate the record and remove only protected material. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, medical, security, and investigative information can have access limits.
Stanton Release Records After Expungement
Expungement can restrict the continuing public court trail. Kansas conviction and diversion expungement is addressed by K.S.A. 21-6614, while arrest expungement follows K.S.A. 22-2410. Eligibility, waiting periods, exclusions, and disclosure effects depend on the exact offense and disposition. Confirm current law and the specific Stanton filing requirement.
A jail booking entry, KDOC record, court file, registry duty, and news report can follow different rules. Do not promise that one order erases every record. A missing KASPER or court result after expungement is not proof that no custody episode occurred. Ask each official custodian how the order affects its record.
For court documents, use the Kansas records-request form and select Stanton County District Court. Ask for a named journal entry, judgment, sentence, dismissal, or bond order. Some public documents may be available at a courthouse terminal even when they are unavailable through the browser portal.
Stanton Release Through 24-Hour Bail
The Stanton Sheriff FAQ says cash or surety bail may be posted at the Sheriff's Department 24 hours a day. This locally verified service is a path out of pretrial custody. It is not a rolling list of people released in 24 hours, and it does not say that each charge is bond-eligible.
Confirm the court set a bond, payment was accepted for the correct case, and jail processing ended. A detainer, which is another authority's request to hold or receive a person, can change the destination. The court bond record explains authority, while the Sheriff and host-jail record show whether physical release occurred.
Search Stanton County Released Inmates
Start with custody type, not a name-only internet result. Stanton's off-county placement makes the physical host the first key fact. Record the date and exact status shown by each source because court, jail, notification, and corrections systems can update at different times.
- Call Stanton Sheriff with the full name, known birth date, booking period, and case number.
- Ask which jail physically held the person and whether the event was release, transfer, or commitment.
- Check that host jail's official current or recent tool, if it publishes one.
- Use Kansas VINELink for county-jail custody and notifications.
- Inspect the Stanton court case for bond, dismissal, judgment, or sentence authority.
- Use KASPER for a KDOC case, or the proper federal locator for federal custody.
- Request the release record when no public source preserves the needed event.
Stanton has no verified official 24-hour or 72-hour recent-release feed and no verified Sheriff inmate app as of the research date. The Jail Releases: 24 Hours and Jail Releases: 72 Hours pages apply the local fallback at those two time scales.
Three Stanton Release Search Outcomes
“Not found in Stanton” is especially inconclusive here. Keep three outcomes open until an official event distinguishes them: release into the community, transfer to an off-county jail, and commitment to another corrections or detention system.
The release entry shows that jail custody ended without a receiving custodian named.
The host or destination field names another local jail or agency.
KDOC, BOP, ICE, or another authority becomes the next custody source.
A roster disappearance does not choose among these outcomes. Request the release type and receiving agency. If the host uses “release” for all departures, ask whether its code includes transfers.
Stanton Release Search Needs Host
January 23, 2023 county commission minutes say Stanton was working with the Grant County Sheriff toward an inmate-bed agreement. That is useful evidence of the offsite-custody model. It is historical, not proof that Grant County holds a person today or held every Stanton detainee then.
Call Stanton Sheriff for the current or last host. Once identified, use that jail's official roster, release tool, or records custodian. The host may hold the intake photo and operational log, while Stanton holds legal-custody, transport, and release-authority records.
The official Sheriff page supplies the local contact route and does not show a roster link.

The screenshot confirms the official starting office. It cannot identify the host for a particular person, so direct confirmation remains necessary.
KASPER Stanton Release Record Search
KASPER is the Kansas Department of Corrections offender search. It covers people associated with KDOC-operated or funded programs, including people sentenced to the Secretary of Corrections since 1980 who are incarcerated, under post-incarceration supervision, or discharged. It is not a county booking database or full Kansas criminal history.
Accept the disclaimer, then search by name or KDOC number. Match the Stanton person with date of birth, physical details, conviction county, and case number. Inspect current status, custody or supervision level, location, movement dates, sentence structure, and sentence dates.
| KASPER field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| KDOC number | Stable corrections identifier for matching the record. |
| Current location or parole office | Shows institution or supervision assignment, not necessarily a home address. |
| Anticipated guidelines release date | Official prospective field, not a guaranteed departure date. |
| Parole eligibility or conditional release | Separate legal milestones that should not be merged with discharge. |
| Expiration of sentence | A later end-of-sentence marker when applicable. |
| Movements and status | Can show transition from institution to supervision or discharge. |
KASPER says it updates each working day. Record the access date and confirm a same-day change directly. An absconder status does not mean successful discharge. Accuracy comments may be sent in writing to kdoc_pub@ks.gov.
The KDOC locating page explains who appears and which fields are available.

This corrections source applies only after a state-system connection is established. A person with only a Stanton county-jail episode may never appear.
Stanton Court Preserves Release Authority
The Stanton County District Court page links directly to the statewide public portal. Search by case number when possible, or match a name result with care. Bond orders, dismissals, journal entries, judgments, and sentencing records can remain useful after a short jail display is gone.
The clerk's office is at 201 N Main St, Johnson, Kansas, phone 620-492-2180. Published hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. A case marked closed does not supply a physical release timestamp, and no online result does not prove that no case exists. Some documents are terminal-only or protected.
The official court page shows the local access point and statewide case-search link.

Use the court record for the reason detention changed. Use the Sheriff or host record for when the person actually left and where the person went.
Stanton Release Supervision Search
KDOC supervises state-prison releases on parole or postrelease supervision. The Kansas Prisoner Review Board handles specified release decisions. District courts can impose probation, and community corrections can administer some court-ordered cases. These tracks should not be collapsed.
KASPER may show the parole office maintaining supervision. The official directory assigns Stanton County to the Liberal Parole Office, 415 N Washington, Liberal, KS 67901, phone 620-960-6462. A person's displayed assignment controls because relocation, interstate compact, or case assignment can place supervision elsewhere.
KASPER warns that community-corrections probation events after April 21, 2021 may not display during system modernization. Use the court case and current agency directory for that track. More detail appears on Probation & Parole.
Identification After a Stanton Release
The Stanton County Treasurer page describes local Kansas driver's-license services. It can be a narrow document-navigation starting point after release. It is not a release program and does not promise every lost-identification replacement service. Check current required documents before visiting.
Record corrections follow the agency that created the data. Send a written KASPER accuracy comment to kdoc_pub@ks.gov. For a county release-record error, contact Stanton or the host-jail custodian. For a court entry, contact the Stanton clerk and identify the case and document.
Stanton Release Alerts and Locators
Kansas VINELink provides county-jail custody information and release, transfer, or escape notifications. It does not include KDOC state-prison offenders. A released result means the reporting county jail no longer has the person. A transfer alert points to another custodian.
For a KDOC person, use KASPER and the separate KDOC Victim Services notification process when eligible. For federal prison, the BOP locator can show a release date and “Released” location. A past BOP release does not settle federal supervised release or another agency's custody.
ICE's Online Detainee Locator System can cover current immigration custody and, under the official resource reviewed, people released from ICE custody within the prior 60 days. A county record saying “released to ICE” describes a transfer, not community release. The U.S. Marshals Service has no comparable public historical released-person locator; FOIA is its formal records route.
Compare Stanton Release Search Sources
Use the system tied to the event. No single locator covers every Stanton County released inmate.
| Source | Best use | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Host jail roster | Current physical county-jail custody | A missing name may reflect transfer or expired display. |
| County release record | Actual jail departure, type, and destination | May require requests to Stanton and the host. |
| Stanton court case | Bond, dismissal, judgment, or sentence authority | Does not prove the processing time. |
| KASPER | KDOC custody, release, supervision, or discharge | Does not cover every county arrest. |
| Kansas VINELink | County-jail status and notifications | Excludes KDOC prisons. |
| BOP and ICE locators | Relevant federal custody | A locator no-result is often inconclusive. |
Stanton County Release Facilities
The facility map includes local legal custody, the changing physical host, and state or federal systems that may receive a person. Select the page that matches the event rather than treating every entry as a jail located in Stanton County.
- Stanton County Sheriff custody / off-county contracted bed: local arrest, legal custody, host identification, and bond or release confirmation.
- Neighboring-county host jail, facility varies: physical booking, operational jail log, release time, and possible intake photo.
- Kansas Department of Corrections adult system: state prison, movements, anticipated release, supervision, and discharge records.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons system: federal prison location and released status for federal cases.
- Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention system: immigration custody after a transfer or separate ICE event.
The primary local question remains simple: which physical jail held the person for the episode at issue? Stanton Sheriff is the official starting point for that answer.
